Two and one-half days.
Ten hours of driving
Countless flies lost.
Sleet. Rain. Hail. Snow. And that was just today.
Six takes.
Three fish-jumping, drag-screaming fights.
Zero landed.
Maybe T.J. was right.
Maybe he can recommend a program.
I know. To be honest, the fights were worth the price of admission alone, and when it started to sleet and everyone on the river cleared out leaving it to Jonny and I, it was perfect.
Never caught a steelhead. I've caught a few Great Lakes salmon, mostly chinook, but I live within walking distance of a stream that is supposed to have an amazing spring steelhead run. My wife is not excited about this. Especially after I hooked a 34" chinook that pulled me into the river with my seven month old baby on my chest. I love fishing with my little girl! she slept right through the whole thing
Ha, thanks. I'm surprised to see that there are fish at all in this particular stream. We just moved by it a year within the past year. you can see some pics here: http://whatthekarp.blogspot.com/2012/10/i-dont-know-how-much-longer-i-can-hold.html
Hell. It's never about the numbers. You know that.

DeleteSteelies' are addicting, that is for sure. Treasure the experience!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good time. Good people. Reasonable angling. And enough tangles with nickel bright fish to make it fun.

ReplyDeleteNate, you exhibit just the right obsessive tendencies to make a great Steelheader. And maybe your daughter too.
